This Power BI dashboard displays various indicators for Mongolia’s 21 aimags and the capital city, Ulaanbaatar. With half of its population concentrated in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s aimags have experienced out-of-population migration and slowing births since the democratic revolution in the 90s. Staying in the countryside, through living a nomadic or herder’s life, is often touted as a noble duty to preserve Mongolian culture and tradition. However, such commitment is not rewarded equally from a development point of view. For example, there’s a direct reverse correlation between the number of herders in an aimag and its Human Development Index (HDI) level, which comprises education, health, and income metrics.
